Hard for me to remove ''Banjo'' and ''Conker'' from here, but it's based on how they more or less technically (they're in related scope, however) branched from ''Donkey Kong'', which precedes the ''Mario'' franchise (consider: ''Donkey Kong'' has Mario as protagonist, ''Donkey Kong Jr.'' has him as antagonist, then ''Mario Bros.'' for Game & Watch was first game to have Mario's name in the title). | |||
