While citing the non-English Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedias is acceptable, citing the English version is not. The English version of the book uses old, likely outdated, and created names directly pulled from and/or specifically meant for the wiki. In most cases, we already have a different name sourced, so using the old name while referencing the book would just lead to us referencing ourselves.
While citing the non-English translations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia is acceptable, citing the English version is not. Shortly after the English release of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, it was discovered that one of the translators working on the book had taken conjectural and foreign names from fan websites such as the Super Mario Wiki and Fandom's MarioWiki. In addition, the English translation of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia had also made numerous other inaccuracies and errors relating to various pieces of information (e.g. Wiggler being misspelled as "Wriggler" during some sections referencing them, Montys erroneously being called Monty Moles, the Wiggler in Super Mario 64 being treated as a standard enemy despite being a boss in that game, etc).

Like with the English Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, the Mario Portal website has also been proven to be an illegitimate source for enemy names due to giving multiple enemies outdated or incorrect names. The Mario Portal has been shown calling enemies either by names that were not for the game they appeared in (e.g. Multiple Super Mario Galaxy enemies and some enemies from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins being inconstantly called generic names), or flat out calling an enemy using the name of an entirely separate species regardless of if they are a part of the same species or not (e.g. Monty being incorrectly called Rocky Wrench or Prickly Piranha Plant being incorrectly called Spiny Piranha Plant). Due to the amount of errors present on the Mario Portal, any pages using a name from it (unless the name is used in a more creditable source as well) should be moved to a different name due to the Mario Portal website having too many errors to deem it reliable. If an official name was given from a more creditable source as well as Mario Portal (such as Ant and Masked Ghoul), the Mario Portal source can be removed with the other source being used as the main source for the name instead. Finally, any species connections stated by Mario Portal and nowhere else (such as Monty being called Rocky Wrench) should not be used as proof for one species being in the same family as another species due to the source being illegitimate and proven to be unreliable and false.
Like with the English Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, the English version of the Mario Portal website has also been proven to be an illegitimate source for enemy names due to misnaming most enemies. Examples of the ways that the Mario Portal mislabeling certain enemies include naming the enemies off of names that were not used the game they appeared in or any other supplementary material related to the game (e.g. Multiple Super Mario Galaxy enemies and some enemies from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins being referred to with generic names), ignoring names for certain enemies and bosses that were said in-game (e.g. Fiery Dino Piranha and Octopus from Super Mario Galaxy being mislabeled as "Dino Piranha (Black)" and "Rocto" respectively despite having names that were said in-game), or flat out calling an enemy using the name of an entirely separate species regardless of if they are a part of the same family or not (e.g. Monty being erroneously called Rocky Wrench despite not being related to them, or Prickly Piranha Plant being erroneously called Spiny Piranha Plant despite being two separate species of Piranha Plant). Like the English translation of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, the Mario Portal has also taken certain names from fan websites such as the Super Mario Wiki (e.g. Swoopin' Stu being mislabeled as "Gooble," which was the name that the Super Mario Wiki had labeled Swoopin' Stu from February 2015-March 2019 due to erroneously assuming that the Gooble name found in the scoreboard of Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour was referring to this enemy, despite the fact that the Gooble name was simply just a generic name that had no correlation to Swoopin' Stu), making the website even more untrustworthy.

If an official name was given from a more creditable source as well as the English version of the Mario Portal (such as Ant and Masked Ghoul), the Mario Portal source can be removed and the other source for the name can be used instead. Additionally, any species connections unintentionally stated by the English translation of the Mario Portal and nowhere else should not be used as proof for one species being in the same family as another due to the unreliability of the website making it likely that these were simply just misnames of the enemies (such as Monty being erroneously called Rocky Wrench despite the Undergunt species having no connection to the Monty Mole family).
