Spiked Thwomps have one eye, similar to smaller Thwomps, and a few spikes on each side except the top, which is a flat surface that can be used as a platform. Like other Thwomps, Spiked Thwomps can only be found in side scrolling areas, and are found at the top of a ceiling, awaiting Link to pass by. Whenever Link approaches a Spiked Thwomp, it falls down to try and squish him. A Spiked Thwomp's eye looks in whichever direction Link is at. From a certain height, Link can use the Roc's Feather to jump onto a Spiked Thwomp. Sometimes Link has to stand on a Spiked Thwomp to reach higher areas. Even while Link is standing on a Spiked Thwomp, it continuously falls and rises.
In their debut appearance and its reissues, Spiked Thwomps are gray, but in the Oracle games, they are blue. A Spiked Thwomp is colored gray, and it has only one eye, which follows whichever direction that Link is in. A Spiked Thwomp also has small spikes beneath its chin and on the sides. Like Mega Thwomp, Spiked Thwomps have a flat surface on top, allowing Link to stand on them.

Like other Thwomps, Spiked Thwomps can only be found in side scrolling areas. At first, they are found at the top of a ceiling, awaiting Link to pass by. When Link approaches a Spiked Thwomp from below, it looks down, bearing a sinister grin, and drops to try and squish him. From a certain height, Link can use the Roc's Feather to jump onto a Spiked Thwomp. Unlike Thwomps in the Super Mario series, a Spiked Thwomp does not return to the ceiling after dropping. Spiked Thwomps cannot be defeated.

In The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Spiked Thwomps appear in Angler's Tunnel and Catfish's Maw. In The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, they appear in the Snake's Remains, and in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Spiked Thwomps appear in Wing Dungeon.

Though Spiked Thwomps do not appear in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Thwomps have their behavior from the Super Mario series, acting like Spiked Thwomps.
